Are we the Malaysians still afraid of non-commercial music?
No wonder Malaysian radio is in the state that it is today.
Seconded. Their playlists have become so routined, predictable and the music is highly pedestrian :| It's also rather obvious that whatever's on MTV/Channel V will more than likely make its way to radio.

I totally agree with you. Singapore's Mosaic Festival definitely has better lineup. The organizer is willing to take risk by bringing in international and regional indie acts. Look at our lineup, all international acts are well established. We Malaysianas do need something more experimental and unconventional to open up our eyes and ears.
I hope this festival won't be a one-year affair, it will get better in coming years. Listen to our voice, organizer.
To add to your argument ...
High uncertainty avoidance in the local context, much? No one seems to take the initiative and risk in bringing bands that have not made their way to the local mass media, which is a pity. Just because they have not been given that sort of exposure does not negate the fact that there is a fanbase in the country, what with the advent of sites such as YouTube, MySpace, Purevolume, including torrents, etc amongst others - heck, organizers may even be surprised at the result/turnout, if they are willing to go that extra mile for the music fans. While cost and logistics issues will always be present, it would be nice if the variety is there. It gives everyone the choice, the opportunity to check out new bands/music and be treated to these musicians' live shows which we seem to be lacking.
Likewise, I'm hoping it is just the beginning of something massive and that it could only expand & continue to grow in the near future.
